Mardi Gras Parade cancelled for 2021

Good morning and thanks for your willingness to take part in our annual Mardi Gras Parade and Festival, even in this Frankenstein of a year.

We knew going into prep for our 2021 event that there were going to be a lot more questions than answers, especially surrounding the pandemic and how it would play out. The hope was that there would be some sort of relief by the time February rolled around.

But here we are approaching Christmas and the numbers seem to be rising at an alarming rate.

The Order of Cimarron’s leadership met Thursday and came to a unanimous decision that due to the size and scope of our event – last year’s parade and festival drew around 15,000 people into downtown Wetumpka – social distancing and other best pandemic practices would not be realistic. To that end, we agreed to cancel our 2021 event and turn our attention toward a reboot of sorts in 2022.

Our 2022 parade and festival is scheduled for February 26, 2022.

If you have already submitted your parade entry forms – they will automatically be rolled over into the 2022 folder. If you have submitted a vendor form – check with Lee Ann about how to proceed.

Again – thank you for helping us make the past 10 years a success. Our hope is that the relationships we have built in those years will continue to grow and in the absence of an event in 2021, we hope that we are able to cultivate new relationships that will help make the 2022 parade and festival one for the ages.
